It’s the best time of the year here in Japan - sakura season! Coming from Toronto where there are only a couple of crowded spots to see the cherry blossom trees, living in Japan has made me spoiled. Here, the cherry blossoms are everywhere; in parks to parking lots - I can see them no matter where I look.
One of the most time tested traditions is hanami (admiring the blossoms) and this is usually done by gathering under the cherry blossom trees to indulge in food and drink. It’s one of my favourite leisure activities and this year I was able to bring Yoshitora to indulge as well. I didn’t explore as many places as I did in previous years but went to two pivotal spots in Osaka; Mt. Showa and Osaka Castle Park.

First, Yoshi’s papa and I took him to Mt. Showa, a man made mountain not too far from us. Built in 1970, Mt. Showa is 108ft tall, offering a great view of the city as well as the nature within. This was Yoshi’s first chance to see the blossoms up close and his papa lifted him up to smell and touch.
We had a lovely afternoon and got in some exercise pushing the stroller up the mountain. It was pretty lively with people, including an older man hiking up and down the mountain with his radio blasting muffled music out of his pocket.
After that trip, I took Yoshi to Osaka Castle Park not once but twice where mama got to enjoy tasty snacks and a drink or two with friends. It was Yoshi’s first time napping outside under the trees and judging by the looks of things, he had a lovely time!
